*Importance of Core Training and a Neutral Spine*

Core stability training is essential for sports performance, injury prevention, and functional activities daily. When we contract the core muscles we stabilize the spine , its similar to locking a padlock. The core is made up of the abs, internal and external obliques and the lumber spine. The lumbar spine makes up 50 percent of the core, the obliques make up 30 percent and the abs make up only 20 percent.

The T.V.A. or (Transverse Abdominis) are all the muscles that line the spine, and to engage these muscles, just draw your belly button toward your spine and hold. Additionally, training the core muscles can correct postural imbalances that lead to injury.

All in all, a strong core will enable us to utilize our upper and lower extremities much more effectively and you will feel like a powerhouse. It is strongly encouraged that clients of all ages begin as a beginner core training program and progress from there, under a personal trainers guidance and work toward exercises on the stability ball, bosu ball, and dyna discs.

Here's the an example core workout keepin' it simple:

1 bridge on elbows, push up position and keep a neutral spine,2 kneeling down on knees, arms on stab. ball, forward ball roll then 3 crunches on stability ball, make sure your lower back is on the ball not hanging off, 4 bridge on back , lift hips and glutes off floor and hold and repeat.
